SYC Courses does not operate user accounts, advertising, analytics, or developer servers. The app's navigation information and saved race data remain on your device unless you choose to share them or send navigation data to equipment on your local network.
Information the app uses
SYC Courses may use the following information to provide its sailing features:
- Precise location and motion-related navigation data, including position, speed, course, timestamp, and location accuracy. This is used for bearing and distance calculations, Start Assist, race tracking, and other on-water navigation displays.
- Boat navigation data received from an Actisense W2K-2 connection, such as position, speed over ground, course over ground, heading, fix quality, and timestamps.
- App settings and activity stored locally, including recently viewed courses, active course and mark selections, saved race tracks, boat geometry, and Actisense connection settings such as its local IP address, port, and protocol.
How information is used
This information is used only to perform the features you request in the app. Location can continue to be used while race tracking is active so that the app can record the track. iOS displays its background location indicator when applicable.
The app does not use this information for advertising, tracking across apps or websites, profiling, or sale to third parties.
Local network and Actisense
If you configure Actisense connectivity, the app communicates directly with the Actisense W2K-2 at the address you provide on your boat's Wi-Fi network. It can receive NMEA navigation data and, when enabled, send course and waypoint information to the device using TCP or UDP. This local-network traffic is not sent to the app developer.
TCP and UDP Actisense traffic may not be encrypted by the app. You are responsible for the security of the local Wi-Fi network and connected marine equipment.
Storage, sharing, and deletion
Saved race tracks, recent courses, app preferences, and equipment settings are stored locally on your device using Apple's app storage. The developer does not receive or retain this information.
When you use an iOS share sheet to export a GPX course file, the destination you choose handles that file under its own privacy terms. You can delete saved tracks and recent course history within the app. Deleting the app removes its locally stored app data, subject to normal iOS backup and restore behaviour.
Apple services and permissions
Location access and local-network access are controlled by iOS. You can review or withdraw these permissions at any time in the iPhone Settings app. Apple-provided services, including system location, maps, sharing, backups, and diagnostics, are governed by Apple's terms and privacy policy.
Children's privacy
SYC Courses does not knowingly collect personal information from children or anyone else through developer-operated servers.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated if the app's features or data practices change. The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
